Pledge of Allegiance: Socialist.

So the Pledge of Allegiance was written by a Christian Socialist. Odd that Francis Bellamy, a Baptist minister, didn’t originally put “under God” in there.

Odd, too, to think of a Baptist minister being a socialist. But that wasn’t really all that unusual at the time. And America’s Christian socialists are still around, although not nearly as influential as Britain’s Christian Socialist Movement (CSM) (which included Tony Blair) and the corresponding movement in Australia, which counts Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as a member.
